The Breakaway Pointe Transitional Program

Breakaway Pointe is the Phase 2 transitional next step from incarceration to community.

Located on 27 prime acres in Shelby County, approved CORE graduates who are released from prison and have earned the privilege of entering into LifeLink’s transitional process will be released under the supervision of Breakaway Pointe staff. New residents are met at the prison gate upon release and immediately enter into our “First 72 Hours Reentry Care Assistance (RCA)” with our on-site Reentry Specialist and Breakaway Pointe Manager. Included in the care assistance aside from treating the returning citizen to a meal of his/her choice, is obtaining documentation, health/medical needs, attending to legal requirements, settling into a new lifestyle and meeting with prospective employers.

CORE graduates are also required to participate in Breakaway Pointe programs while in residency. Maintaining a safe, healthy community at Breakaway Pointe is crucial to the continued development of our CORE graduates, which is why only CORE graduates who have assimilated into a pro-social, values-based community culture, are accepted at Breakaway Pointe.

LifeLink is currently undergoing a master development plan for Breakaway Pointe combining residency and on-site employment to meet the unique needs of some returning citizens who, due to age, health or other factors, may be unable to secure full-time employment in the marketplace. The development plan for Breakaway Pointe is to become a manufacturing facility for construction related products plus other complimentary products and services. Revenue produced from products and services will help sustain organizational operations.

In addition to providing training and gainful employment in manufacturing, the project will allow us to provide vocational training for a variety of construction trade skills, warehouse management, sales, landscape, industrial maintenance, heavy equipment operators, CDL licensing, and sub-contracting teams. More than 50 on-site job positions will be created commanding multiple employees in each role. As residents learn their trade, they will also be building Life Pointe Village, which is phase 3 of our program.

LifeLink, in partnership with the Alabama Community College System, are developing a training site on the Breakaway Pointe property that will provide CDL and Heavy Equipment Operators training and employment with partnering construction contractors. The ACCS, through the college Innovation Center and with the funding from a federal grant, has agreed to provide on-site training to our Breakaway Pointe residents at no charge. In addition, the Innovation Center will assist in job placement for those who qualify for credentials in the training. For residents who are not candidates for the construction industry, we are proud to introduce them to our industry employer partners who are eager to give jobs to well-qualified candidates.
