CORE- THE WHAT

CORE’s methodology and the curriculum we use have proven to be a successful tool for intervention. Because criminal mindsets and resulting behaviors are generally deeply embedded into the offenders psyche, short-term programs, therapies and stand-alone classes typically have little to no impact on redirecting an offender’s thinking patterns.

Alternatively, the CORE Process consists of 24 months of full-time, intensive studies including: responsible living, academics, cognitive behavioral thinking patterns, problem solving, vocational skills, life plans, moral reshaping and a variety of life/social skills, and reentry and job-readiness topics. An additional 12 months is available for selected participants to serve as interns; which includes leadership roles, instructor facilitation, serve projects and transferring to other correctional facilities to launch additional CORE programs.

We view the CORE residence as an incubator, where the environmental atmosphere is intentionally monitored and adjusted to produce the desired potential in each student. Culture is king and triumphs over all attempts to change, which is why we commit to the long-term approach to reformation
One vital element of CORE’s success is having on-site, full-time staff each day that are available for inmate counselling as well as on-the-spot presence to deal with any conflict that may arise. Over time, our staff has become well connected to the inmate students, which has created an environment of trust and openness.
The evidence-based and real-life proven curriculum we utilize is mandatory for all students. Over the course of 24 months of classes, key truths and corrective moral values are reinforced and repeated numerous times and in various ways. We have discovered that approximately 14-18 months on average of repetitive re-education, coaching, accountability and applied learning is required for a significant change in internal values, consistent behaviors and decision making.
Students are required to complete 5 mandatory classes weekly for each trimester. In addition to mandatory classes, elective classes such as CDL, Business Entrepreneurship, Sales, Home and Auto Skills as well as vocational classes are available. Lastly, inmate facilitated roundtables and small groups are required participation each evening.
Outside of classes, dorm service requirements, leadership responsibilities, office clerical roles, classroom facilitation, serve projects that address the entire camp, hospice and infirmary care, and institutional jobs are also required of students.
The CORE housing unit is an oasis in the middle of the prison desert. Perks include recognition and certificates of accomplishments included in their jackets, numerous extra meals and treats, conferences, meetings, guest speakers/instructors, favorable housing perks such as cooling units, hot water dispensers, ice, coffee, irons, barbering, computer labs and training, and most of all-serenity.
